TRADE APPRENTICE COORDINATOR / INSTRUCTOR

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

This is a salaried position that reports to the MFT Director.

 

Responsibilities:  The Apprentice Coordinator/Instructor shall regularly assess the status of all training programs and recommend necessary action steps to the MFT Director.

 

Duties:

1)         APPRENTICE ADVOCATE

            The Coordinator shall be an advocate for the apprentices. This includes         working with    the apprentices for job placement.  The Coordinator should be familiar with the history   and background of the individual apprentices in terms of occupational standards, i.e.    grades, experience, and skills; and communicate this information to the prospective      employer / contractor.

 

2)         DEVELOP CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCT

            The Coordinator shall establish detailed curriculum and lesson plans for the JATC    to review.  The Coordinator will be expected to instruct classes and inform the JATC of        any problems or issues.

 

3)         INSTRUCTOR SUPERVISION

            The Coordinator shall meet with the instructors on an individual basis at        least once a      week.  This includes asking about the needs of the instructor such as materials,    supplies, physical space/labs and classrooms.  The Coordinator shall observe each            instructor’s classroom and lab at least once during the semester for instruction             observation and report those observations to the MFT Director.

 

4)         LIASON BETWEEN APPRENTICESHIP JATC AND STATE DIVISION OF     APPRENTICESHIP

            The Coordinator shall maintain lines of communication between the JATC and the   State Division of Apprenticeship. The Coordinator shall be responsible for keeping      the Apprenticeship Program in compliance with             state regulations.

 

5)         COORDINATE CONTINUING EDUCATION OF INSTRUCTORS

            The Coordinator shall provide information to the instructors that teach related training to      become aware of teacher training courses offered through the National JATC,  Vocational-Technical Colleges, or other institutions that provide education training.      The Coordinator shall work with the instructors to encourage them and enable them to             attend such training.

 

6)         COMPLETE CONTINUING EDUCATION COURSES AND UPDATE FIELD   EXPERIENCE

            The Coordinator shall complete continuing education courses on a regular basis        and      report such course work to the MFT Director.  On an annual basis, the Coordinator         shall also complete field training as directed by the JATC and MFT Director. In           addition, the Coordinator will facilitate and attend training sessions by various trade    products manufacturers so as to remain current within the industry.

 

7)         JOB SITE VISITS AND APPRENTICE PROGRESS REPORTS

            The Coordinator will make job site and/or shop visits to review the type of training   taking place as well as the quality of the apprentices’ work.  The             Coordinator is expected           to observe each apprentice at least once every semester and report back to the JATC and         MFT Director.  The Coordinator is also required to review on a monthly basis all the    apprentice records for compliance with:          Hours; Class Attendance; and Book Work.

 

8)         MONTHLY REPORTS

            The Coordinator will attend all JATC meetings.  The Coordinator shall maintain        an        accurate up-to-date record of Apprentice time cards and provide monthly reports             to the   JATC and MFT Director.  The Coordinator shall also distribute a monthly report   containing information regarding placement of apprentices and status of the program to       the JATC and MFT Director.   The Coordinator will also submit a detailed training report      to the MFT Director regarding all training in Health, Safety and skills courses given         in the preceding month.  The Coordinator shall keep a travel log and vehicle mileage      records to be reviewed and approved by the MFT Director on a monthly basis.

 

9)         COORDINATE AND IMPLEMENT MAKE-UP CLASS TIME

            The Coordinator shall set up appropriate community projects or assign additional      days at the training facility for students who are in jeopardy of not fulfilling the 144       hours minimum related training per year requirement.

 

10)       ASSIST JATC AND MFT DIRECTOR IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A BUDGET

            The Coordinator will provide such information as is necessary to assist the MFT       Director in the development of a budget.

 

11)       TRAINING FOR JOURNEYPERSONS

            The Coordinator will maintain and upgrade the training and continuing education      program for journeypersons.  This will be communicated to and    coordinated through the           MFT Director with the other trades.

 

12)       REPORTS INDUSTRY

            The Coordinator is expected to be available to make reports as requested by the local           trade union at member meetings or for employers at their meetings.

 

13)       TRAVEL

            In addition to job site visits, the Coordinator will be required to travel in order to       fulfill   the requirements of the position.

           

14)       RECRUITMENT

            The Coordinator will assist the MFT Director in recruiting students and promoting the           MFT as a career choice.

 

15)       PROMOTE AFFIRMATIVE ACTION OPPORTUNITIES

            The Coordinator along with the MFT Director will interact with government   agencies and community groups involved with affirmative action and equal     opportunity in the training programs.  This includes cultivating resources and      providing assistance to the non-traditional worker involved in any of the MFT training          program.
