Associate Degree in Construction Technologies Debuts at Finishing Trades Institute of the Upper Midwest
New opportunity for learning opens paths to career advancement.
The new Associate of Applied Science Degree in Construction Technologies has officially started. We began the semester with 11 apprentices enrolled, and with more interested each day. Our AAS degree has five different concentrations to align with our apprenticeship programs: glazier, glassworker, painter, coating application specialist and drywall finisher. Along with completing the requirements in the apprenticeship program, apprentices will also complete four additional general education classes, including Effective Communication, Effective Writing, Politics in the Community and Intro to Computers.
We will rotate the classes we offer each semester to allow apprentices the ability to enroll in the AAS program at any time. The total cost for the Associate of Applied Science Degree at FTIUM is only $2,000. If an apprentice previously attended a higher education institution, they are also welcome to bring or mail official transcripts that can be evaluated to see if any of their previous courses can transfer in, saving them even more time. Currently, general education classes are held on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Attendance is required each week for the entire semester in order to receive credit.
“We are excited to start offering the classes within the AAS degree to provide our apprentices with additional soft skills on the job sites to help them succeed,” said FTIUM President Christine Storms. “Additionally, the ability to earn a college degree while proceeding through the apprenticeship training is a valuable asset for our members.”
Applications for next semester are now being accepted. Please contact FTIUM President Christine Storms if you have additional questions or would like more information.
